I was speaking to a client today, she received a bogus domain name registration letter and thought I had forgotten to register her domain name. I explained to her that it was common practice by some less than reputable domain name resellers to search for similar domain names to one’s you already own and then charge you exorbitant prices to register them (up to $250.00).

For example you may own www.mydomain.com.au and the domain name reseller will try and sell you a similar domain name like www.mydomain.com.

The invoice you receive is normally very professional looking and many businesses process the invoice and the domain name reseller makes a very handsome profit.

Domain names should really never be anymore than $80.00. If you are paying more, let me know I would love to hear who is paying too much for their domain names. Too many Small business operators are being ripped off and I would like to see this practice stopped.
